Synonymous with the general expression of ‘broker’: an agent authorised to enter into transactions for compensation or remuneration, usually by way of a commission; for example, a real estate broker, an insurance broker, or a money broker. 2. An agent who receives a commission for the purchase or sale of securities, or ‘deals in securities’; or for the purchase, sale or exchange of a futures contract: Securities and Futures Ordinance (Cap 571) sch 5.
