释义	懲罰 The imposition of a penalty or imprisonment for an offence. The main purpose of punishment is to protect the community. The deterrence sentence may be passed to protect public: R v Yuen Kwai Wah (HCMA 1417/96, unreported); HKSAR v Tsang Chi Sang & Ors (HCMA 1076/99, unreported). The punishment for an offence must be proportional to the offence committed: A-G v Low Wing-wah (CAAR 8/95, unreported).
