A form of funding used in the public sector where most of the equity in an enterprise is privately owned, yet the government or public body retains control through possessing a majority of voting shares. 2. A form of funding used in the private sector where a minority fundholder retains control through having a majority of voting shares. This may be achieved through issuing perpetual convertible notes, convertible non-redeemable preference shares, perpetual subordinated notes or irredeemable convertible preference shares. These kinds of funding are often described as ‘hybrids’.
