| 释义 | 雙重國籍 The status of possessing two or more nationalities simultaneously. A person of dual nationality is a national of one country and later acquired nationality of another country without giving up the first; a person who holds passports of two countries, and therefore entitled to consular protection from the countries which issued those passports. The People’s Republic of China does not recognise dual nationality for any Chinese national: Promulgation of National Laws 1997 (Cap 2402) sch 4 art 3. Provided the foreign law permits it, a foreign citizen may acquire Chinese nationality and still retain the original citizenship: sch 4 art 2. All Hong Kong Chinese compatriots are Chinese nationals, whether or not they are holders of the British Dependent Territories Citizen passport or British Nationals (Overseas) passport. Chinese nationals may continue to use the valid travel documents issued by the United Kingdom Government. However, they are not entitled to British consular protection in Hong Kong or other parts of China. Chinese nationals in Hong Kong who acquired the British Citizenship through the British Nationality Selection Scheme will not be recognised as British and are not entitled to British consular protection in Hong Kong and other parts of China. Chinese nationals of Hong Kong with right of abode in foreign countries will not be entitled to consular protection in Hong Kong and other parts of China: Explanations of Some Questions by the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress concerning the Implementation of the Nationality Law of the People’s Republic of China in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (adopted at the Nineteenth Session of the Standing Committee of the Eight National People’s Congress on 15 May 1996).
