Naturalisation is effected by the grant of a certificate of naturalisation and by entry in a register, citizenship by naturalisation or registration acquired by fraud of a serious and causative nature is of no effect. Any person who applies for naturalisation as a Chinese national acquires Chinese nationality upon approval of his application. A person whose application for naturalisation as a Chinese national has been approved cannot retain foreign nationality: Nationality Law of the People’s Republic of China art 8.
