Generally, a brief written or printed statement giving particulars or information.
Bill of exchange - A promissory note (Bills of Exchange (Cap 19) s 89(1)), paper money or a banknote. See also Promissory note.
Conflict of laws - A written official communication directly sent from one government to another, or from an international organisation to a government and vice versa. It is a common mode of communication between the foreign minister of a country and foreign diplomatic missions in that country. A note may be formal or informal, or take the form of a memorandum. Generally it contains a unilateral official statement of the attitude which the government will adopt regarding a particular issue. Such statements are binding upon the issuing state: Eastern Greenland Legal Status of (Denmark v Norway) 1993 PCIJ Ser A [B] No 53. The note becomes legally effective upon receipt by the addressee regardless of whether or not it is acknowledged. However, the addressee is entitled to refuse to accept the note.
