The relationship that exists between persons descended from one or more common ancestors: Re Lanyon, Lanyon v Lanyon [1927] 2 Ch 264. If descended from two common ancestors, it is a whole blood or lineal relationship with that other person; if sharing only one common ancestor, it is a half blood or collateral relationship. Succession by whole blood or half blood relatives: Intestates’ Estates Ordinance (Cap 73) s 4. Under some pieces of legislation, relationship of the half blood is treated as a relationship of the whole blood: Bankruptcy Ordinance (Cap 6) s 51B(7)(a); Fatal Accidents Ordinance (Cap 22) s 2(2)(b); Mental Health Ordinance (Cap 136) s 2(3); Carriage by Air Ordinance (Cap 500) ss 5(4)(b), 15(4)(b).
