单词 Paraphernalia
Lat. 1.Miscellaneous personal belongings; miscellaneous articles of equipment; bits and pieces. 2. Originally, a technical legal term meaning personal property of a married women over which the husband’s executors or administrators could exercise no rights without the wife’s consent. Chattels that the wife actually used and those that matched her rank and position were considered her paraphernalia. Such paraphernalia would remain the property of the wife upon her husband’s death and could not pass to the husband’s executors: Masson, Templier & Co v De Fries [1910] 1 KB 535 (CA). This old common law rule is now made obsolete by the statute: Married Persons Status Ordinance (Cap 182) s 4. All property which was separate property of a married woman or held for separate use in equity; or belonged or belongs at the time of her marriage to a woman married after that date; or after that date has been or is acquired by or devolved or devolves upon a married woman, shall belong to her in all respects as if she were unmarried and may be disposed of accordingly: s 4(1).
