释义 | 獎學金 Financial assistance provided to a student to assist him or her to defray the costs of education, usually at a secondary school or a higher education institution. Eligibility for the award of a scholarship can arise either as the result of competitive assessment of educational attainments or from the standing of the student in relation to the terms of a charitable trust: Re Weaver, Trumble v Animal Welfare League of Victoria [1963] VR 257. Scholarships are governed by legislation such as the Education Scholarships Fund Ordinance (Cap 1085). The secretary of the Education Scholarships Fund Committee must cause a Register of Scholarships to be maintained, with the prescribed particulars entered therein: Education Scholarships Fund Ordinance (Cap 1085) s 8(1).
