A concept introduced into the common law through Magna Carta and developed through (IMP) Criminal Procedure Imprisonment Act 1354 and (IMP) 42 Edw III (1368) c 3 which provide that no one is to be imprisoned, disinherited, put to death, or put out of land or tenement without first being brought to answer in the due process of law. The trial judge is the guardian of the public interest to secure the due administration in his court. Interference with the due administration of justice is a type of contempt of court: Re Application by A-G for Committal for Contempt of Court (HCMP 12/76, unreported); A-G v South China Morning Post Ltd [1984] HKC 500; A-G v Cheung Kim Hung (1997) 7 HKPLR 295; Wong Yeung Ng v S-J [1999] 2 HKC 24.
