单词 Specific mark of testator
The requirement of a signature placed on the will by the testator as acknowledgment of the contents of the document as his or her last will and testament. The testator is merely required to put some marks on the will with the intention that it be his or her signature so that incomplete signatures, initials, assumed or incorrect names, and marks such as crosses and ink blots have been held to be sufficient as signatures: for example Re Chalcraft (dec’d), Chalcraft v Giles & Anor [1948] P 222. A mark made by the testator’s thumb smeared with ink (Re Finn (1935) 105 LJP 36) or a mark of any shape, not necessarily a cross (Re Kieran [1933] IR 222) is sufficient. See also Acknowledgment; Formalities; Signature.
