单词 Accomplice warning
In a criminal trial, a judge must direct the jury, that in respect of evidence given by a witness alleged to be an accomplice to the accused or a person otherwise involved in the offence charged against the accused, that the jury should be cautious about accepting the evidence of the witness where the evidence is not corroborated, although they may do so. The principle behind is that the witness may attempt to minimise his or her involvement in the offence while exaggerating that of the accused. Sometimes it is called the accomplice direction. In Hong Kong, the need for an accomplice warning has been abolished since 1994, by the enactment of the present Criminal Procedure Ordinance (Cap 221) s 60. See also Accomplice; Complicity; Corroboration.
