释义	交替辯護 In civil proceedings, defences that rely on different facts; inconsistent defences. Defendants are entitled to plead inconsistent defences: Child v Stenning (1877) 5 Ch D 695 (CA); Philipps v Philipps (1878) 4 QBD 127 (CA). A defendant is permitted to plead inconsistent and alternative versions of a defence: The Rules of the High Court (Cap 4A) O 18, r 8; Re Morgan; Owen v Morgan (1887) 35 Ch D 492 (CA). However, the court may strike out defences that are an abuse of its process as embarrassing: Smith v Richardson (1878) 4 CPD 112.
