| 释义 | 合理的所信之事 In criminal law, an element of several defences. A belief which is honestly held and held on reasonable grounds: IRC v Rossminster Ltd [1980] AC 952, 1 All ER 80 (HL). It requires not only that the person in question has reason to believe but also that he does actually believe: Nakkuda Ali v Jayaratne [1951] AC 66. For example, in relation to bigamy, an honest and reasonable belief in facts, which if true, would render his second marriage not bigamous is a defence: R v Gould [1968] 2 QB 65, 1 All ER 849 (CA).
