| 释义 | 未經授權的重新發布 Repetition of a defamatory statement without the permission or authority of the person who uttered the original statement. Where a person’s defamatory statement is voluntarily republished by another person to whom he published it or by some other person, the first-mentioned person is not liable because the voluntary act of a third person breaks the chain of causation: Ward v Weeks (1830) 7 Bing 211, 131 ER 81. However, the first-mentioned person is liable for the republication or for the damage caused by it where he authorised or intended the republication; where the person to whom the original publication was made was under a duty (moral, legal or social) to repeat the statement; or where the republication was, in the circumstances of the case, the natural and probable result of the original publication: Speight v Gosnay (1891) 60 LJQB 231 (CA).
