| 释义 | 獨立專家 An expert in a particular field relevant to an issue in a trial who has not previously examined or reported on the evidence for either party: The Rules of the High Court (Cap 4A) O 40 r 1(4). Evidence of a qualified expert is an exception to the rule forbidding the expression of opinion. The duty of an expert witness is to furnish the judge or jury with necessary scientific criteria for testing the accuracy of his or her conclusions and cannot usurp the functions of the jury or the judge: R v Turner [1975] 1 All ER 70, Cr App Rep 80, QB 834 (CA).
