A person (often referred to as an ‘insured’) who has been insured by an insurer, or underwriter, whereby the former agrees to pay money (a premium) to the latter for insurance against loss (a contract of insurance between an insurer and an insured). 2. The assured is under an obligation, even if not formally requested by the insurer, to disclose every material circumstance that is known, or ought to be known, about the thing being insured.
