The two principal duties owed by a customer to his or her bank, being to exercise reasonable care in drawing cheques so as not to mislead the bank or facilitate forgery (the Macmillan duty), and to disclose to the bank any forgery immediately upon his discovery of such forgery (the Greenwood duty). A customer owes no wider duty of care to the bank in the overall management and operation of the bank account: Tai Hing Cotton Mill Ltd v Liu Chong Hing Bank Ltd [1986] AC 80, [1985] 2 All ER 947. Unless there is contractual obligation to the contrary, a customer is also not bound to examine his or her bank statement: Kepitigalla Rubber Estates Ltd v National Bank of India Ltd [1909] 2 KB 1010; Tai Hing Cotton Mill Ltd v Liu Chong Hing Bank Ltd, supra.
