Each person’s DNA is unique and as a result, traces of DNA in a crime scene may provide evidence of presence of a suspect at the location. The profiling of DNA contained in tissues needs to be carried out in bio-chemical laboratories. ‘DNA profiling’ is one of the medical procedures prescribed as a ‘parentage testing procedure’: Re CB (A Minor) (Blood tests) [1994] 2 FLR 548. ‘DNA profiling’ is sometimes referred to as ‘DNA genetic finger printing’ or ‘DNA typing’.
