释义	被告應訊 In criminal cases, the term applies to the appearance by the accused, voluntarily or secured by his or her arrest. The accused’s appearance is normally a prerequisite of his or her being tried except in summary trials where in some circumstances his or her presence may be excused: Magistrates Ordinance (Cap 227) ss 18 (appearance by counsel) and 18E (plea of guilty by letter).
