释义	動機 A circumstance or thing which induces a person to act. Although motive may in some circumstances have the same factual meaning as intention, its legal significance is different. Intention is the label for the mental element of certain offences, whereas there is a general rule that unless there is an express provision to the contrary, motive does not constitute an element of criminal responsibility: for example, R v Looi Kim Lee & Anor [1985] 2 HKC 410. Evidence of motive may be relevant in the establishment of the intention element of an offence: R v Chan Sai Kit [1995] 2 HKCLR 104.
