In corporations law, a method used to reduce settlement and credit risk between contracting parties (for over the counter options) who have entered into multiple dealings. The main object is for each party to reduce its exposure on open contracts if its counterpart becomes insolvent before the date for performance. This is achieved by the solvent party being entitled, upon the insolvency of its counterpart, to close out or terminate all of the open contracts, and to calculate losses or profits concerning each contract. See also Derivative; Open contract; Option. n. |
