Corner |
A form of market manipulation in which a buyer, or a combination of cooperating buyers, purchase more than the available supply of a security and hold the same back from sale with the intention of forcing short sellers to settle on terms dictated by the buyer or buyers. A corner happens when a much greater quantity of any given security is sold for future delivery within a given period than can be bought in the market. The deals are settled by the payment of differences instead of actual delivery. Also known as ‘ramp’. See also Market manipulation; Security; Short selling. n. |
