单词 Standby letter of credit
A form of letter of credit, under which the paying bank undertakes to pay a specified sum of money to a named beneficiary on presentation of specified documents by the beneficiary, to another bank. It protects one party against the other party’s failure to fulfil his or her obligations. The documents specified usually include a certificate that the primary debtor has defaulted under an underlying contract. The obligation of the paying bank to pay the named beneficiary on presentation of the relevant documents exists independently of the underlying contract. A standby letter of credit is similar in operation and effect to a first demand guarantee. See also Beneficiary; First demand guarantee; Letter of credit.
Beneficiary; First demand guarantee; Letter of credit。
