释义	法例 The instruments embodying the making and promulgation of laws by legislature (ie statute law). The power to make laws is vested in the Legislative Council of the Hong Kong SAR: Basic Law arts 17, 66. No law enacted by the Legislative Council shall contravene the Basic Law: art 11. The courts in exercising their judicial power conferred by the Basic Law, have jurisdiction to examine whether legislation enacted by the legislature of the Hong Kong SAR is consistent with the Basic law. If it is found to be inconsistent, the courts can hold the legislature to be invalid: Ng Ka Ling (An Infant) & Anor v Director of Immigration; Tsui Kuen Nang v Director of Immigration [1999] 1 HKC 291 (CFA).
