释义	普通法的損害賠償 The principal remedy a defendant is required to pay to a plaintiff for loss suffered by the plaintiff as a result of the defendant’s tort or breach of duty. Common law damages take the form of monetary compensation, with the aim of returning the injured party, as far as possible, to the position occupied before the wrong or breach was committed. In actions for negligence, damages are awarded by way of a single sum for all the foreseeable consequences of the defendant’s negligence: Donoghue v Stevenson [1932] AC 562 (HL).
