Arranging for someone to hold an asset or shareholding to ensure that the actual owner remains anonymous, for example a nominee shareholding in which the identity of the beneficial owner is masked. By using warehousing technique, a company (or a group of consorting companies) can gradually build up a holding of shares in the company it wishes to takeover. The acquiring company ‘warehouses’ the shares by holding them in nominee accounts to achieve anonymity. 2. The pledging of a long-term mortgage as security for a short-term loan from a financial institution. 3. An arrangement between a broker or dealer and a customer for a sale with a provision for repurchase on a future date at a present price. 4. In relation to swaps market, running a book of unmatched swaps by the market maker rather than trying to pair each deal.
