One of the parties to the intended marriage shall appear before the Registrar of Marriages and make affidavit that he or she believes that there is not any impediment or kindred or alliance or any other lawful hindrance to the marriage, and either that the consent of the parties required by law to consent to the marriage has been obtained or that no such consent is required: Marriage Ordinance (Cap 181) s 12.
