释义	機械毛病 A defect or derangement of the mechanism of a machine. It is a defence to a claim for breach of statutory duty under the Road Traffic Ordinance (Cap 374); for example, to maintain and keep in good condition the steering gear, where the collision was caused by a latent mechanical defect which was not discoverable by the exercise of reasonable care on the part of the defendant: Lai Por v Tsang chiu Hon [1983] 2 HKC 359. The burden is on the defendant to show that he had taken all reasonable care in the circumstances and reasonable precautions to ensure that the vehicle was road-worthy: Lai Por v Tsang Chiu Hon, supra.
